For the Love of Power

Hey everyone,

If you are waiting on me for your images, just know I'm working on it.  Vacation last week on top of the lovely Tropical Storm named Irene, which left us without power until this morning means I'm a little behind.

But I'm thinking about you.

And I love having electricity.

Lovely Light | Trumbull Family Photographer

This session was taken at the Twin Brooks park in Trumbull at a perfect time of day with golden evening sunlight.

Do you want to know the signature of Connecticut parks?  It's those flocks of giant geese that roam around.  We practically had the park to ourselves this day, except for that flock of geese.  Do you see one of them in the far right background?  I almost Photoshop-ed it out, and maybe I will in the finished product, but I thought I'd point it out.  Because a Connecticut park just wouldn't be the same without a big geese walking around.

Am I right?

Always Improving

Thank you to all of you who came to our August Portrait Party for our Grand Opening in Trumbull.  We loved seeing you and photographing your precious children.

I thought you could all use a post about Jamie & I and our efforts to constantly improve our photography craft.  We take our jobs seriously as photographers and we also really, really love it.  We want to be always improving so we can offer you excellent photographs.  While there is always more to learn about the science as well as the art of photography, that's exactly what we love about it.

Last week, I (Lillian) attended an amazing six hour photography training with Sandy Puc Tours.  I got so many great ideas and tips from this very talented and successful photographer.  I also added to my prop collection an awesome baby pillow that will allow me to get some great shots of your newborns and pre-sitters.  It's the same pillow Sandy uses in her studio.  I used it for the first time this weekend on a newborn session.  I can't wait to use it more - so bring me your babies to photograph, please!

Also, this summer I attended a fabulous five-week Small Business Workshop as well as a Marketing Workshop put on by Norwalk SCORE.  If you run a small business of any type or are considering running a small business, I highly recommend getting in touch with your local SCORE chapter.  They are a fantastic resource and have excellent volunteers who have been successful in business themselves and are willing to share their knowledge with us.  The workshops are free and the counselors really are very knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge.

On top of that Jamie and I are constantly educating ourselves on Photoshop & Lightroom, and using lots of online resources about learning our cameras.  There are so many free resources out there, so if you want to learn more, do a Google search.  It's amazing what you can find.  We get daily emails with photography tips.  Lillian is also a member of the Clickin Moms forum, a huge resource for women photographers.

We are also each licensed with the State of Connecticut, so when we charge you sales tax on top of the cost of your session, we are doing so legally and paying that sales tax to our lovely Connecticut government.  Gotta love taxes, right?

And since Jamie & I love photography, we also love sharing what we know about it.  If you ever have a question or would be interested in us putting together a workshop for you, feel free to give us that input.

And since no post is complete without a photograph, here is one of the newborn session I did this weekend using my new baby pillow!  This sweet little girl was so good for her very first photo shoot.  I can't get enough of all that brown hair!

Grandma & Grandpa | Fairfield County Family Photography

We had a wonderful summer visit with the Grandparents last week.  The kids had so much fun visiting family and especially playing with cousins.

On the morning we left, we woke up the children and put them in the car without even changing them from their pajamas so we could get an early start on our road trip home.

Here they are saying goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa with sleepy eyes, pacifier, pjs and sweet morning faces.

We love you Grandma & Grandpa!
